After competitive bidding by various African
countries, Kenya was given the privilege of hosting the African Tchoukball
Championships 2016 from the 18th to the 21st of August.
The event took place at the Starehe Boys Centre and School and was attended by
people from all walks of life. The event
had the participation of 5 countries; Cameroon, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and
the host Kenya participating with two teams. After 15 amazing and intense matches,
the squad of Cameroon got crowned as the African Championship 2016, in the
final with Uganda with the score of 76x33.
Kenya finished in 4th place after a victory
of 46x28 with Tanzania. Rwanda finished in third place in the general
classification.
The African Tchoukball Championships aimed at engaging
more people to ensure that tchoukball is spread far and wide. The president of
the Kenya Tchoukball Federation Mr.
Kennedy Miruka said the event will go a long way in increasing the
penetration of tchoukball in the country. “This is our proudest moment to see
the growth of Tchoukball in Africa. The event
will help us move closer to our main aim of
establishing tchoukball in Kenya and far and making it a household sport that
enjoys great popularity and gratification. “Said Mr. Miruka. He added that Kenya Tchoukball
Federation (KTF) will work tirelessly to promote tchoukball in various parts of
the country.
